Tropical Grassland Plant Life
Trees are scarce because of limited rainfall, so they have some odd adaptations. The trees that are here don't have many leaves, so they require less water. Grazing animals eat most seedlings so its hard to reproduce. Like temperate grasslands, the grass stalks are flexible.
The baobab tree (left) can store water in it's thick trunk, which is also fire proof. The trunk can hold up to 120,000 litres of water! The acacia tree (middle) has thorns that deter animals trying to eat it. The candelabra tree (right) has a spiky outside and a poisonous sap. The sap can blind and burn anyone who touches it.
