Both the Arctic and Antarctic have very strong winds. So much so, they're like frozen deserts. When the winds hit, any life is scarce.
In both biomes, fresh water is difficult to come by. This is mostly because of the temperature. Any standing water freezes, and any precipitation falls as snow.
